Surgery

There are 2 types of surgeries performed for Breast Cancer in the Breast.

1) Breast Conservation Therapy: referred to by many names: Lumpectomy, Segmental Resection, Quandrantectomy, Partial Mastectomy.

The goal of the surgery operate only in the portion of the breast where the cancer is located. This is achieved by

removing the cancerous area with a rim of normal tissue surrounding it called a margin. This should be offered only to

patients who will have enough breast tissue after removal to have a relatively normal appearing breast.  This can be

better achieved through Oncoplastic techniques. Often this can be achieved in combination with a Breast Reduction

in Women who have large breasts and desired to be smaller.
